Within the framework of the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 European Interregional Cooperation Programme, the 7th Exchange of Experience (EoE) meeting of the DeepTechValleys project partners was held from September 8 to 9, 2026, in the city of Leiria, Portugal. The hosting partner was the Leiria Region Intermunicipal Community (CIMRL), with the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia acting as the lead partner.

The DeepTechValleys project is an ambitious European initiative aimed at strengthening regional deep tech ecosystems and improving policies and tools that support innovation. Co-funded by the Interreg Europe programme, the project has a duration of 51 months (04/01/2024 – 06/30/2028) and is implemented by ten partners across nine European countries. Through the exchange of experiences, the transfer of good practices, and capacity building, the project seeks to enhance regional competitiveness and contribute to shaping a strong European innovation ecosystem.

The first day began at Startup Leiria – Cowork Mercado with a brief welcome from the Leiria Region Intermunicipal Community. This was followed by a meeting of the project steering group committee. Later, local stakeholders had the opportunity to participate in a presentation themed “Funding & Investment – Understanding the Funding Landscape for Deep Tech Startups,” which highlighted key parameters related to accessing funding and investment opportunities for the growth of deep tech startups.

During the second session, participants moved to the Real Factory – Creative Hub Porto de Mós, where project partners discussed and exchanged experiences regarding the deep tech business financing ecosystem in their respective regions. Finally, a thematic workshop was held aimed at connecting regional challenges and seeking solutions regarding the investment sector.

The second day included three study visits to selected organizations with the goal of exchanging experiences and highlighting practices related to the development of innovative products and business activities. More specifically, participants visited the Center for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development, PRF Gas Solutions (a company providing technological solutions and gas infrastructure), and a company active in the ceramic industry sector (Matcerâmica). This offered partners the opportunity to experience the local industrial ecosystem and explore the technological potential of the Leiria region.

The 7th Exchange of Experience (EoE) meeting of the DeepTechValleys project partners in Leiria, Portugal, served as a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange, strengthening partnerships, and gaining a deeper understanding of the funding mechanisms that can support the growth of deep tech enterprises at a European level.

Partners renewed their commitment to the next interregional meeting, continuing their efforts to advance European deep tech and promote a more resilient and interconnected innovation community.
